When we bought our house I was so excited to finally have a set office space. I do a lot of my work on a computer so a space for everything was exactly what I needed. When we started researching and designing our space we also wanted it to be family friendly. I wanted T to have a spot that he could study and put his stuff since he wanted this to be his man cave and I made it a office instead. (haha!) Anyways, we of course used Ikea for almost everything because well it’s Ikea and I do love myself Ikea shopping trips! Originally I really really wanted a emerald green wall but T won the paint battle and I let him pick the shade. Luckily it turned out so good and I love the color the accent wall is painted! We decided to paint the main wall “Midnight Show” by Behr and the remaining walls we did Behr “Wheat Bread” at 50% opacity. It really turned out so good. It isn’t too girly but not too manly which I love that its a space for us both! I love the blue wall. It is like a perfect shade of navy blue that isn’t too royal but still has a subtle hint. Ah I love it! I wanted a “pretty, pinterest office” but let’s face it, it isn’t functional. I needed a spot for Archer to color and to store all his crayons, my craft supplies, etc. So I needed shelves and space to store everything. *Affiliate Disclosure. Start off with measuring your space and deciding which top will work best for you. This is what we ordered from Ikea.
(2) LINMON/ALEX/ADILS in solid white
We took the (2) Limnon/alex/adils and put them in both corners of our room. We stuck the Kallax shelf in the center and then we mounted the Linmon tabletop going outwards with (2) adils legs on the ends. The two alex desks didn’t quite allow enough room so he cut a tiny bit off one of the tabletops so they would fit. It did end up leaving a small gap that didn’t quite fit tightly so T just cut a piece from the scrap piece he cut and glued it in to make it secure and tight.
We got the Kallax wire baskets in gold to hang in the unit and we use that to hold our mail and bills. On the Kallax unit I decorated it with my old camera, a polaroid and some plants and on the bottom it has small totes filled with craft supplies and Archer’s coloring supplies.
We needed a bookcase to hold our chatbooks, important binders, and board games. I decorated a few of these other shelves with plants and knick knack things I had around my house but the main intention of this shelf is to hold our books. We had stacks of yearbooks that we didn’t want to throw away but had nowhere for them so now they sit on a shelf. I also like to make yearly binders that holds our important documents so it’s nice to have somewhere to store them.. Like I said not the prettiest bookshelf but its functional which is what we needed.
I knew that I wanted shelves to go up the wall to hold more important things so I loved finding the EKBY OSTEN shelves (wow mouth full) and they were so simple, easy and cheap to hang up. On my side I decorated with my Associates Degree, a letter board, a Utah sign that my friend gave me when we moved, and a plant on top. I let T decorate his side since that was his side and he chose a lot of his military items. He did the pictures we had taken of our boys and him in uniform, his Henry Golden Boy gun (which he is building a nice gun stand for it to sit on instead of the army bear) and his folded flag and a John Wayne military themed truck. I love how the shelves turned out and how we each have our own side and the kids have their own places to. It has been so nice sitting in here working while Archer plays with play dough or colors. The desks clean up SO easily and so it makes me not worry about Archer accidentally coloring on the table.
To decorate the desks I wanted to keep it simple. T uses the macbook and use the IMac more so we put those on each sides. I snagged these awesome lamps from Target and I LOVE them. They totally fit our vibe and I love the gold accents. (If your interested in purchasing them just click the photo below!)
On my side I have a Scentsy Warmer and we each have a gold picture hanging wall decor on each side to hang some pictures, reminders, etc. I cannot remember where I got the gold wall hangers but I want to guess IKEA but I couldn’t find them on their website so I could be wrong! We also each have these adorable gold cups from Target to hold pens and pencils.
I found my mouse pad in the Target Dollar section along w/ this cute “to do” list note pad. I’m always wanting to write stuff down so I leave it there for easy access!
Our white chairs we got off Amazon. They were on a killer deal so we ended up buying (2) sets of them for our office and kitchen because of the cost and easily to clean up of them. I just wipe them down with a wet rag and they are good to go. We are wanting to grab 2 saddle stools to go underthe kid part of our desk but haven’t found the right ones yet!
Overall, I am so happy with how this space turned out and how we made it custom to adapt to our family and our needs/wants. It very easily is one of my favorite rooms in the house and I love coming in here and working now that I actually have a space to hold stuff and store stuff! It’s been so nice having a place that not only I can work at, but T can work to as well as our kids! I do plan on doing a few more things like adding curtains, getting a basket for my new plant, and organizing a little better but for now it works perfect!!
